When people talk about the Mazda 13B twin-rotor motor, they often think of understated RX-7s with giant wings and front splitters. However, this 13B was also honored to power one of the coolest buses in the world, the Parkway Rotary 26. By the way, the engine in the Parkway Rotary 26 is still not quite the same as that of the sporty Mazda you all dream of. However, the basic legendary architecture has been retained: an elongated 12A motor with two 654 cc chambers. Most auto enthusiasts know that the 13B was launched in the early 70s on the RX-4 and RX-5 models, but few know that Mazda also equipped a small bus with this engine. Luxurious little bus! Mazda called it a minibus, but it seems to us that with 26 seats, this is not entirely correct. It is larger than a minibus, but smaller than a bus. In a word, an analogue  Mazda Buses & Microbuses in Kenya of our PAZik. In fact, Mazda began building buses in 1960, adapting its D1500 to carry 13 passengers for the Japanese Ministry of Defense. Later, the Japanese sold it to the Middle East (possibly) to serve as an ambulance. Then, in 1965, Mazda introduced the 25-seat Light BusType-A, a quirky bus with a rounded front and giant rectangular windows. The Mazda Type C, which came out around the same time as the Type A, was equally weird and surprising, but the crown jewel of Mazda's bus industry is definitely the Parkway 26. This model, driven by the demand for high-end minibuses, pushed Mazda to a completely different level. The Parkway 26 was available with several engine options, including a 2-liter in-line petrol four-cylinder (91 hp) and two 4-cylinder diesels with volumes of 2.5 (76 hp) and 2.7 (80 hp). liters. However, all these engines are irrelevant, since in 1974 Mazda showed the world the first Parkway Rotary 26 with the legendary 13B with a capacity of about 135 hp. with. On the one hand, this is not so much for a 3.2-ton bus, but on the other hand, it was enough for the bus to gain more than 110 km / h - an impressive figure for those times. The meaning of this motor, hidden under the floor between the driver and the first passenger seats, was not at all in speed, but in comfort. This engine has proven itself to be smooth and quiet. The “silk” rotor worked perfectly in a large bus with a 3.3 meter wheelbase. This meant that passengers could listen to the radio in peace, as well as enjoy three heating modes, soft headliners and other details that created a premium atmosphere. A total of 44 of these buses have been made, making it not only one of the coolest, but also one of the rarest buses from the mainstream automaker. © 2005–2021 "Avtoutro.ru".
